Eating Disorder Treatment
Therapy for Eating, Weight and Body Image Concerns

Learn about eating disorder treatment for all with eating, weight and body image concerns.

It’s tough to exist in our world today and not feel a degree of shame and disgust about one aspect of our body or our body as a whole.

We are constantly bombarded with images from social media and, for some of us direct or indirect messages from within our family, friendships, and partners that our body is not acceptable the way it is.

We hear it’s within our control; it’s our responsibility to look after our body and make it fit society’s expectation of what is “beautiful”.

Such pressure can lead us to diet, eat “clean”, overexercise and feel immense shame and guilt when we just can’t look like the images of “healthy” we see around us or we  follow on social media.

What can you expect from me to help you overcome eating and body image concerns?

Through a collaborative and evidence-based approach, I aim to address the complex interplay of psychological, emotional, and behavioural factors contributing to eating disorders and body dissatisfaction.

What does the eating disorder treatment involve?

The eating disorder therapy process often involves various therapeutic modalities.

These include cognitive-behavioural therapy for eating disorders (CBT-E), Schema Therapy for Eating Disorders, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based approaches.

These approaches help you develop a deeper understanding of the underlying factors contributing to your eating disorders or body image concerns and empower you to make positive changes in your behaviours towards food and your attitude towards your body.

Therapy sessions also address co-occurring mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, often accompanying eating disorders. By addressing these underlying psychological factors, therapy can help you achieve long-term recovery and improve your overall well-being.

What is my eating disorder treatment approach?

My therapy approach is highly individualised and tailored to each person's unique needs and goals.

In our sessions, I aim to establish a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs surrounding food and eating, weight, and body image.

We will work together to identify and challenge distorted beliefs you may hold about your body, become aware of your assumptions and rules around eating, work to foster a positive relationship with food and cultivate acceptance and respect for your body.

How about body image in pregnancy and motherhood?

A woman’s body goes through many wonderful changes in pregnancy as it adjusts to sharing space with a growing baby.

The changes in weight and shape and a feeling of loss of control over this period can be very distressing for many women.

If this is your experience, let me support you through this so that you can focus your attention inward and nurture your connection to the growing life within you and your psychological growth as a mother.
